LOEB, the Harrods of Bern, is a historic department store with eight floors of fashion, homeware, and gifts. Established in 1881, it remains an icon in the city's shopping scene.
During the modernisation of the prestigious department stores in Bern and Biel, the new store concept involved a significant investment in digital communication. The focus was on enhancing the customer experience, and technology served as a tool to inspire, simplify, and make everything more convenient.
The department stores are equipped with various digital in-store solutions. Large floor modules are placed on each floor, displaying campaign information and the location of each department. Touchscreens allow customers to search for products and access detailed product information.
In the restaurant area, self-service is facilitated through touchscreen ordering. Digital screens are installed in fitting rooms for customers to easily call for assistance and communicate their needs. Staff members are notified through Apple Watches or digital touchpoints at the checkout counter. Large video walls in display windows and throughout the department stores showcase promotional material and campaigns.

By employing intelligent and flexible concepts and new technologies, LOEB can meet the diverse needs of consumers and transform the department store into an experiential destination. For instance, during Christmas, LOEB offered an interactive advent calendar that connected smartphones with digital screens.
After the modernisation, measurements indicate that the duration of visits has increased, and the customer experience has improved.
