Underground railway stations: MTR Service Information Panel, Hong Kong

The customer

The Hong Kong MTR is regarded as one of the world’s leading metro systems with an average passenger capacity of 3.4 million per weekday. The rail network MTR operates comprises of nine railway lines serving both urban and suburb areas in Hong Kong.

Customer need

To warn customers about unpredictable situations and a station route map.

DISE solution

MTR has deployed more than 300 Service Information Panels in all stations to enhance their passenger’s experience in case of incident that could affect the train service. The screens are placed in front of the entrance gates in the concourse area and provides safety and promotion information in normal situation. In case of an incident, line and controllers have the ability to send out ad-hoc pre-defined or custom made screen messages to the affected stations. The composed message can be graphical or textual to indicate affected stations and type of incident. A pre-defined station route map also indicates the information graphically such that busy passengers can get the first hand service information at a glance of the screen.

onActivity has developed an advanced messaging system to serve the complex backend and a collection of intuitive user interfaces for the system operators. Thanks to the versatile capability and shared content editing capability of DISE, onActivity find it almost impossible to have done this with others.
